Jo makes her record run at the weekend

Runner has the third fastest female UK time this weekend

Lothian Running Club’s Jo Williams won Saturday morning’s Livingston Parkrun.

The LRC member finished ahead of the field in the 5km event in 17.30, which saw her record the third fastest time by a female across Britain at the weekend.

It was a female onetwo for the club as Lana Turnbull crossed the line in 19.51 to finish eighth overall as LRC claimed five of the top eight spots.

In fourth place was Ryan Kirkland ( 18.56), while Scott Nelson ( 19.21) was one spot further back. Pol MacDonald finished seventh in 19.40.

Meanwhile, Livingston AC’s Yvonne Crilly was ninth place overall and third female in 20.08.

Her team- mate Katie Craig was fourth female and 23rd overall in 21.21 with Lothian Running Club’s Andrea Cameron just one second and one place further back as the local ladies clinched the top five places.

LRC’s Hannah Steel got her 2018 Highland Games season off to a winning start with victory in the youth 800 metres handicap at the Cupar Highland Games in Fife on Sunday.

Running from the 170 metres mark Hannah, who won the same race the previous year, crossed the finish line in 1:52.29.

There was further success for the club in the Whitburn Boundary Five Mile race where Lana Turnbull led home the female contingent and also finished in second place overall.

Jim Alexander and Jim Salvage finished fourth and 15th respective­ly.

In what was a good weekend for the LRC females, they picked up another prize in the Seven Hills of Edinburgh race with Christine MacVarish finishing second in the F45 category.

Owen Williams led home the blue vests in 25th place and he was followed home by Euan McInnes ( 49th), Christine MacVarish ( 98th), Shona Young (132nd), Paul Young (150th) and Jim Petrie (165).

It was a busy weekend for Paul Young who the previous day took part in the Run Mhor Half Marathon at Balquhidde­r.

A handful of club members ran the Glasgow Men’s Health 10k. Results were: 13th Euan Rennie, 103rd Al Aitken, 421st Jack Maybury, 851st Brian Morris, 1549th Andy McKenna.

This Sunday, the Lothian club hosts their annual Dechmont Law Trail Races at Livingston.

The 2k Fun Run kicks off proceeding­s at 10.45am followed by the 3.5k trail race at 11.15am.

The 10k trail race comes under starters orders at noon.
