Jim falls short in capital

-

The Edinburgh Darts Association held their final competition of the season on the Premier League and Jim Mitchell was the only West Lothian ace to make it through to the last-32.

Matches were best-of-seven affairs, but the victor must win by two clear legs unless the scores became 5-5 in which case it became a winner-takes-all 11th leg.

Mitchell progressed all the way through to the final, where he faced West of Edinburgh star Joe Bata in a thrilling contest.

It was a stunning contest that went the distance after Mitchell pegged back his opponent from a 3-1 lead to set up the crucial deciding 11th leg.

With Bata having won the throw, he was favourite to seal the title. The pair could barely be separated after 12 darts each with Bata on 178 and Mitchell on 187.

The Edinburgh lad fired a superb 138 to set him up for the title, but he was made to fight all the way as Mitchell put pressure on him with a ton.

There was no mistake from Bata, though, as he hit double top to claim the Edinburgh Darts Association Match Play single title in thrilling fashion.

Mitchell can be pleased with his efforts on the day, though, which included a 12-darter and a further five games of 16 darts or less. He also rattled in three 180s as well as a tidy 146 take out - but it just wasn’t enough to get home over the line.
