Linlithgow back on track with win

Narrow victory in Division One fixture

- Callum Carson

Linlithgow got back to winning ways with a narrow one-wicket victory at home to Royal High Corstorphine.

In the entertaining Division One fixture, RHC won the toss and chose to bat on what looked like a great wicket. They were soon regretting that, though, as Linlithgow had them sitting at 26-5 after Jordan Hamilton (3-21) and Rory Thomson (2-25) made hay with the new ball.

They were able to recover with a fine sixth wicket partnership before losing another wicket, after which John Strachan removed the lower order with ease, claiming three wickets as Corstorphine were dismissed for 105.

It appeared the hosts were in control only to slip up themselves as they were sitting on 30-5 after 22 overs.

The situation looked bleak when Hamilton walked to the wicket with the score at 58-8 but he defied the odds with a sparkling display that included a mammoth six over backward point as he helped guide his side to a nervy victory to climb to fifth in the table.

Fauldhouse Vics grabbed their second win of the season in Division Three to climb off the foot of the table.

Chasing Haddington’s 123- 8 from their 40 overs, Fauldhouse crossed the line with three wickets and a little more than two overs to spare to clinch the 20 points on offer.

Livingston remain unbeaten and atop the Division Two table thanks to a fine eight- wicket win over closest challengers Drummond Trinity.

Livi won the toss and elected to field. They restricted the home side to 151-9 thanks to fine bowling with Kash Khalid, Travis Chandler and Jack Jarvis claiming two wickets apiece.

Mark Peachey was in fine allround form as he took a wicket as well as claiming two catches and a pair of run outs.

He couldn’t replicate that form with the bat, though, being dismissed for five, but Khalid and captain Ahmed Ali both hit half centuries to guide the team to victory with 11 overs to spare.

The club’s Second XI may have been slightly disappointed at being bowled all out for 124 at the hands of Old Contemptibles, but a stunning bowling performance saw them skittle the visitors all out for just 38 as they remain third in Division Five.

The Third XI Sunday League team lost out to Murrayfield DAFs.

Chasing 170 for victory, a stingy bowling display restricted Livingston to 117-4 in reply as they fell short.
