Education guru’s joy at receiving top honour
Retiring college boss given Lifetime Achievement award
A retiring West Lothian College principal has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Herald Higher Education Awards.
Mhairi Harrington OBE was recognised at the awards ceremony held at the Double Tree Hilton in Glasgow last week.
Ms Harrington OBE retires this summer after a long and distinguished career in Higher Education. Mhairi was appointed principal and chief executive at West Lothian College in 2008 and is one of the most inspirational and respected leaders in Scottish Further Education.
She was delighted to receive the award and said: “It is a great honour to receive this award and I’d like to thank the Herald Higher Education Awards.
“I am very proud to represent West Lothian College and feel very humbled to receive such a wonderful accolade.
“It has been an honour to lead West Lothian College over the past ten years and I am so grateful to all of my colleagues who have played an enormous role in our success. The college is in a fantastic position to move forward and continue to provide students with the skills and educational experience that they need to succeed in their chosen career path.”
Mhairi has been a leading force in improving the delivery of education and skills to meet the needs and demands of students and stakeholders throughout West Lothian and is recognised locally for the significant contribution that she has made to Further Education within the local community.
