Older dog’s appeal

- Courier reporter Marjorie Kerr

The charity Neil’s Hugs Foundation offers help, understanding and support to families and friends in West Lothian affected by suicide.

The objective of the charity is to assist people in West Lothian, surrounding areas and eventually all over Scotland who are affected by the attempted or completed suicide of a family member or friend.

Its aims are to support family members or friends who are struggling to cope with the attempted or completed suicide of someone they care about; to raise awareness of the issue of suicide; to reduce the stigma attached to suicide; to provide a safe space to talk about love ones; to improve mental health of people affected by the loss of a loved one or friend and to reduce suicide rates by sign posting people to organisations which can help support their loved one or friend.

Animal welfare experts are appealing for a home for Biscuit, the 14- year- old crossbreed, based at Dogs Trust in West Calder.

Her carers say she is a sweet lady who enjoys being in the company of people she knows, she adores pottering around the garden and relaxing at home.

She enjoys her time best when she is snoozing on a comfy sofa or when she cocoons herself inside a big snuggly duvet.

Although her name is Biscuit, her favourite treats are actually Dentastix and Shmackos; she also loves snacking on yummy sausages and chicken pieces.

A Dogs Trust spokesperson said: “Although she is 14, Biscuit is still very spritely and likes going on a few walks throughout the day and then enjoys relaxing in her blankets for the evening.

“She can be a little nervous when meeting new people and can take a short time to build up trust.

“Once she knows someone however, she loves spending time with them and will perhaps encourage a nice chest rub which she loves.

“This sweet girl is looking for a quiet home in a rural area with not much going on around her.

“She enjoys peace and quiet and would be best suited to a home with few visitors. She would benefit from a sensible and experienced owner who is at home for most of the day to take her out on walks and show her lots of love.

“Biscuit gets along with some dogs but would prefer to be the only pet in the home, she is also looking for a home with adults only.

“Biscuit is a great girl who would make a fantastic companion.”
