Sir is one of best

Top teacher award

- Debbie Hall

A Bathgate school teacher is being hailed as one of the best in the country.

Shaun Morley from Bathgate has been named one of the best teachers in the UK thanks to nominations from impressed parents.

A three- week search via Facebook was carried out by One4all, the Post Office gift card, which saw 169 nominations coming in from students, parents and members of the public from around the UK.

Mr Morley, who teaches at Carrick Knowe Primary in Edinburgh, was shortlisted in the search for the UK’s best teacher due to the impact he makes on his students and was awarded a £ 100 One4all Gift Card as a token of appreciation for all that he does.

Dale Dow, a parent at the school who nominated the teacher, said: “Mr Morley is one of those teachers who incorporates fun into his lessons.

“He does all he can to ensure his children achieve in their learning but he is also bringing energy to the class.

“Every year, the children wish for Mr Morley when the class list is released.

“When he is not teaching, he is also an active member of the PTA, gives his time up to help out and is always updating parents. He is 100 per cent dedicated to his role as a teacher.”

The campaign saw almost 200 nominations submitted from locals, parents, students and colleagues – all of whom were eager to sing the praises of teachers from schools across the nation.

Rachel Delaney, group marketing manager at One4all Gift Cards, said: “Teachers have such an important role to play in the lives of the younger generation, helping to shape their future lives and ensure that they feel supported and happy throughout every step of their school journey.

“It’s a huge responsibility and requires a lot of patience, dedication and passion, not just on some days but every day – a skill which we at One4all Gift Cards feel should be rewarded.

“We felt so passionate about this that we launched a search to find and reward the nation’s best teachers.

“Mr Morley is clearly a student favourite, bringing fun and bundles of energy to his classes.

“He recognises that while school is about learning, it’s about making memories and children should be having fun.

“In our opinion, he is a very worthy runner up in our search for the UK’s best teacher.”
