Jaconelli hits the target as United see off Thistle rivals

Livingston Utd ...1 Bathgate Th .......0 Premier League South

Livingston United’s impressive start to the campaign continued with a great victory over local rivals Bathgate Thistle at Station Park.

United, managed by former Thistle assistant Andy Malone, climbed to fourth in the Premier League South table with the three points and remain unbeaten in three games.

Both sides had plenty of chances during the first half, with Jags keeper Marc McDonald producing a fine save after his poor clearance fell to Chris Rooney outside of the box.

The United man thought that he had found the net only for the outstretched McDonald to palm the ball out for a corner-kick.

However, the deadlock was broken barely a minute into the second half when United’s Jason Gregory – on loan from Livingston FC – picked up the ball on the right and drove through the defence into the box before firing an angled drive that was well saved by McDonald.

But unfortunately for the shotstopper, the rebound fell kindly into the path of Bryan Jaconelli who tapped the ball into the net.

The Jags struggled in the final third as they tried to get back into the game, while at the other end Jaconelli and Callum Mitchell fired wide when well placed to score.

United will aim to make it four games without defeat when they visit West Calder United at the weekend, while the Jags hope to get up and running at home to Armadale Thistle.
