Att: 1957 Ref: Willie Collum New Livingston signing Steven Lawson says he’s looking forward to plying his trade in the Scottish top flight after signing a two-year deal with the club.

The 24- year- old, who has six international caps for Togo to his name, is predominantly a defensive central midfielder but can also play on the right side of defence and midfield.

And he said the way he was welcomed into the club during a period training with the Premiership outfit convinced him it was the right move to make.

He commented: “The club contacted me and sold me on the idea of playing in Scotland and playing for Livingston.

“They want to count on me and make me a better player so I was interested and I was invited in for training and to watch a game. When I came here it was a very good surprise because all the players are friendly and made me feel welcome.

“I really appreciate that and like that they made me feel happy to be here and the Scottish people are very friendly and I have experienced the town and the people of Livingston and already enjoy being here.”

He added: “I have played in France, Switzerland and for the Togo national team. Last year with Neuchatel Xamax was good but it was an amazing experience to play for Togo alongside someone like Emmanuel Adebayor.

“It’s great to feel like part of a team and a town but it is a bigger level to be representing your country and having so many people supporting you and wanting you to do well.

“You are playing for all of the people in the country and there is great pride in being able to do that.”

Lawson, who counts French lower league side Vannes amongst his former clubs, says he hopes that good individual performances can help the club avoid relegation in their first top flight campaign for 12 years.

He said: “The only thing that I want for the season is to enjoy playing for the team and helping them to stay in the league. If I can do that, then it is a great season for sure.”
