Yvonne is world-class

-

Lothian Running Club can now boast a World Championship silver medallist among their ranks after Yvonne Crilley was able to produce one of her best performances at the World Masters Championships in Spain.

The LRC runner claimed second place in the F55 800m event in Malaga.

Yvonne qualified for the final by winning her heat in 2:39.29 before smashing close to nine seconds off that time the following day in the final (2:30.76) as she finished behind fellow British runner Virgina Mitchell of Guildford AC.

Christine Anthony (West Suffolk AC) made it a clean sweep for Great Britain on the podium.

Yvonne’s success came off the back of taking the F55 800m Scottish title at the Grangemouth Stadium earlier this year.

Another of the LRC veteran athletes who turned in an impressive performance at the weekend was Malcolm Lang.

He was running in the British and Irish Masters International Cross Country Trials in Glasgow and finished runner-up in the M40 category.

That should ensure qualification to represent Scotland during an international meeting at Swansea in November.

In the overall results, Malcolm finished in eighth place as he broke the 26 minute mark, covering the 8km course within Tollcross Park in 25.58.

There was further age category success for the club at the Cumbernauld 10k where Alan Knowles was the leading M40 with his new personal best time of 35.54 also placing him eighth overall.

There was a good representation from LRC in the race. Clubs results were: 8th & 1st M40 Alan Knowles (35.54), 32nd Barry McComish (38.41), 51st Al Aitken (40.07), 72nd Paul Young (41.50), 73rd Ross Williamson (41.52), 74th Kyle Williamson (41.52), 150th Finlay Slane (45.02), 221st William Francis (47.42).

Lothian Running Club ultra-runner Shona Young reached a marathon milestone on Sunday.

On finishing the Berlin Marathon, she has now completed all six World Marathon Majors.

Prior to Berlin, Shona had ran the 26.2 miles events in London, Boston, Tokyo, Chicago and New York. Her time in Germany was 3:26.36.

On home soil, LRC’s Euan McInnes impressed at the Pitlochry 10km event, as he came home in fifth place in a time of 36.47.
