Scouts of all ages got together in the great outdoors to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their popular campsite.

Members of the West Lothian District Scouts met at Craigs Woodlands in Torphichen on Saturday to mark the milestone with a day of fun events.

Linda Lincoln, secretary of the West Lothian District Scout Council, said around 350 youngsters — Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers — descended on the site to celebrate, along with Provost Tom Kerr, West Lothian Council leader Lawrence Fitzpatrick and representatives from the Scouts and Girl Guides.

Linda said:“It was a lovely day, I think everyone had fun, it was a little cold but at least it stayed dry for us. There was about 15 stands with different activities including archery, tomahawk throwing and stepping stones.”

The 20-acre site that is now West Lothian Scout Camping and Training Centre was bought by the association 60 years ago and has now been expanded to include three permanent buildings and is used by the Scouts along with local schools and other organisations.

The centre was officially opened on the October 18, 1958 by Ian Rodger and continues to provide the Scouting community, Guides and other groups and organisations with a safe and enjoyable place to camp, run activities, and train leaders.
