Support group event

Charity open day

- Marjorie Kerr

A support group for families affected by addiction are hosting a special event this weekend.

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs in partnership with local families and organisations are hosting a family friendly day on Saturday ( October 6) in St Marys Church Halls, Bathgate.

Everyone is welcome to go along and there will be free activities and refreshments for the whole family. It’s all about fun, friendship and connecting to community. The group asked families what matters to them and what they could do together about it. Families said ‘many people are just completely disconnected’ and ‘ we shouldn’t be hidden, we should be visual and vocal.’

A spokesperson for Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs said: “With thanks to the Big Lottery Awards for All fund, we are aiming to engage 500 people over 10 events like this one across Scotland. The event is open to all and has been shaped by local partners, families affected and community members. For more information find us on Facebook or www.sfad. org.uk.

“We hope that these events will begin to shape a new movement for change. We hope that wider and stronger networks amongst families and in communities will help build new connections; create opportunities in conversation to share experiences, learning and ideas; and create social change.”

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs is a national Scottish charity which supports families who are living with the impact of someone else’s alcohol or drug use. Their helpline is 08080 10 10 11.
