BURNS SET FOR ROBBO REUNION

Livi ace insists there’ll be no old pals’act with ex-boss

Livingston’s Bobby Burns insists there will be no old pals’ act when he faces former manager Steve Robinson this weekend.

The Lions travel to Motherwell hoping to continue their great start to the season and extend their unbeaten run to seven games, but Northern Ireland under-21 internationalist Burns insists it will be no easy task.

He said: “Stevie used to be my manager at the youth levels with Northern Ireland, so I know him quite well and he’s a very good manager.

“I also know a few of the Motherwell players and although they’ve maybe not had the start that they will have wanted, there’s no doubt that they are a very good team and we’ll need to be at our best if we want to get anything from the game.

“They have the quality to hurt us but after recent results, we’ll obviously be going into the game full of confidence.

“I watched them in their League Cup defeat against Hearts last week and they played well so we can’t take them lightly.”

The Hearts loanee says he’s settling into life in West Lothian, having only joined the Jambos in the summer, and hopes to play his part in more giant-killings as the season progresses after coming off the bench in their 1-0 win over Rangers on Sunday.

He commented: “I’m really enjoying being at Livingston. It’s a bit weird going on loan from the team at the top of the league to the one sitting joint second, but I’m really happy to be at Livi and playing in the Premiership because when the idea of going out on loan came about I thought I’d maybe have to go down a division.

“The win against Rangers was pretty special and it was a great game. I was part of the Northern Ireland under-21 team that beat Spain a few weeks ago and that was terrific as well.

“I’ve been involved in a couple of big giant-killings and hopefully that continues because Livingston will be considered underdogs in most games this season.

“I haven’t actually been involved in many games this season, but they all seem to be big ones. The Spain game was incredible and the guy I was marking was in the squad for Valencia in the Champions League game against Manchester United, so it’s a bit surreal.”

He added: “I’m just hoping to work hard in training and play well when I get my opportunity. The team is flying so I might have to bide my time but I’m confident I can do the job.”
