Councillors have congratulated one of their officers for putting West Lothian “on the map” when it comes to best practice in health and social care.

Lesley Aitken, acting Quality I m p r o vement ma na g e r for the Health and Social Care Partnership has been responsible for embedding the European Foundation of Quality Management Model ( EFQM) across the partnership and leading it through the Quality Scotland Awards process - notably helping to achieve ‘Recognised for Excellence’ last year.

The EFQM is a not- for-profit organisation which provides management training designed to promote best practice among its 50,000 member organisations around the world.

Lesley received the Ambassador for Excellence Award at the Quality Scotland Awards for Business Excellence, in front of 250 guests, in June.

She told the council’s Health and Care Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel she was delighted to receive the award and added it is also recognition for West Lothian’s Health and Social Care Partnership. Lesley said she has been supported and encouraged from the beginning and is grateful for the opportunities her work has presented.

To date, West Lothian is the only Health and Social Care Partnership in Scotland to use the EFQM model and participate in the Quality Scotland Business Excellence Awards process.

Chairing the Health and Social Care PDSP Councillor Harry Cartmill said: “Please accept our warmest congratulations.”

Councillor Janet Campbell added: “Congratulations, and thank you for putting West Lothian on the map.”
