Top Japanese pianist to play at Linlithgow

- Marjorie Kerr

A renowned pianist is set to perform in West Lothian this weekend.

Yu Kosuge will perform in Linlithgow on Saturday (October 20).

She made her debut with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra at the age of nine and is a winner of the Suntory Award – the highest musical honour in Japan and tickets for her performances in her home country are highly sought-after.

Currently based in Germany, she regularly appears at top venues in Europe and North America.

Her Carnegie Hall debut recital in New York recently met with outstanding success and critical praise.

With her superlative technique, sensitivity of touch and profound understanding of the music she plays, Yu has become one of the world’s most noted young pianists.

She has released 10 CDs with music by Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart and Beethoven.

All of the items in her programme of classical pieces relate to fire, from Tchaikovsky’s‘At the Fireside’, a ritual‘Fire Dance’ by De Falla,‘Fireworks’by Debussy and excerpts from the‘Firebird Suite’by Stravinsky.

Other pieces include items by Reger, Liszt and Scriabin.

All are welcome to come and enjoy this wide-ranging programme.

Linlithgow Arts Guild apologises that this event has had to be moved to Linlithgow Primary School which is a change from the previously advertised venue.

Tickets (£12, U26 £6, children free), are available in advance online from www.LinlithgowArtsGuild. co.uk (no booking fee), by text to 07731 614179, and from local high street shops including Far from the Madding Crowd.
