Plug pulled on icon Ash
Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 (18)
The joy created by this riotously entertaining third run is tempered somewhat by the show being subsequently axed.
As a result, the crazy cliffhanger ending is likely to remain forever unresolved.
It’s a real shame as Bruce Campbell’s Ash, a true horror-comedy icon, deserves a much better send-off.
Constantine: City of Demons (18)
Speaking of cancelled shows, despite being a hit with many, the live-action Constantine only managed one season.
But, potentially unlike Ash, the antihero lives on in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and now this enjoyable animated offering.
Matt Ryan voices the lead with gusto and it’s refreshingly dark-but-humorous.
The Hurricane Heist (12)
Director Rob Cohen launched the Fast & Furious franchise, and has helmed the likes of xXx and Stealth, so he’s no stranger to over-the-top madness.
Even for him, however, this tale of a raid on the U.S. Treasury as a Category 5 hurricane hits defies realism.
Wafer-thin characters waste the cast, which is a particular shame in the case of Toby Kebbell who deserves a better showcase of his undoubted talent.
The special effects range from passable to unconvincing and none of the set-pieces truly get pulses racing.
It’s pretty hilarious how crazy it all is, though, and you’ll marvel at how these people manage to survive several certain death scenarios while still cracking the odd joke.
