Lothian Running Club’s Stewart Laing reached a personal milestone after crossing the finish line in Chicago - as he completed the six Marathon Majors.

Stewart’s time of 3:07.30 saw him complete the set having previously raced at marathons in Tokyo, Berlin, New York City, Boston and London.

His achievement sees him follow in the footsteps of fellow LRC member Shona Young who completed her Majors portfolio in the recent Berlin Marathon.

There was double reason to celebrate for the Laing family as Stewart’s daughter Stacey also crossed the finish line in Chicago as she completed her first marathon in 3:53.52.

Ger ry McCa f f e r t y a l s o represented the club and finished just outside his personal best in 3:36.46.

The club boasted two of the top three female finishers at the Lochore 10k over the weekend with Mel Zobel taking the win. Shona Young finished third.

In winning the Livingston Parkrun on Saturday morning, Jo Williams’ time of 17.54 was the quickest in the UK by a female as she kept up her stunning recent form.

Locals were the first four female finishers at Livingston with Williams being followed home by Yvonne Crilley, Hannah Steel and Christine Mulholland. The club’s Josh Dack was leading male and second overall.

Elsewhere, John Malcolm and Christine MacVarish represented the club in the Pentland Skyline Race which is a fell race covering 16 miles and in the Pentland Hills.

A total of 240 runners took part with John finishing 56th in 3:06.56 and Christine coming home in 129th place and 15th female in 3:45.06.
