Bagging eleventh straight win
Pumpherston have been the model of consistency this season - as they not only picked up their 11th straight win in all competitions to start their campaign but defeated Kirkcaldy YM by the same score in consecutive weeks.
The Recreation Park side went into their home Fife and Lothians Cup clash on the back of a hard fought 3-0 victory away from home over the same opposition in a league game last weekend.
And, just like that fixture, Craig Martin’s men were forced to wait until the second half before opening the scoring as they were frustrated during the opening 45 minutes.
Darren Carroll eventually got the home side in front just five minutes into the second half with a smart finish as the YM rearguard was finally breached for the first time.
Chances were squandered before Jackson Cowan netted to double the home side’s advantage in weather that wasn’t overly conducive to pretty football.
Barry Nicholson, who was on the scoresheet twice in last week’s clash, wrapped up the scoring late on as Pumpherston became the only West Lothian side to book their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Premier North outfit Newburgh at home. However five local teams are still to play their second round fixture.
The draw for the quarter-finals took place on Monday afternoon, with the ties as follows: Pumpherston v Newburgh; Stoneyburn or Livingston United v Kennoway Star Hearts; Fauldhouse United or Harthill Royal v Rosyth; Glenrothes v Thornton Hibs or Bathgate Thistle.
