Council and trust back living wage for staff

West Lothian Council and Fauldhouse Community Developmen­t Trust teamed up to support Living Wage Week.

Both the council and Fauldhouse- based voluntary organisati­on are long- term supporters of the Living Wage Foundation’s campaign to ensure all workers are paid a fair rate for their work.

Over 2,000 council workers benefited when West Lothian Council int roduced the independen­tly- calculated Living Wage rates in 2016 for all staff. Faudhouse Community Developmen­t Trust (CDT) has also been an accredited Living Wage employer for three years.

Living Wage Week ran from November 5 to 10.

Executive councillor for developmen­t and transport Cathy Muldoon visited Fauldhouse CDT to mark Living Wage Week, and encourage more local employers to join the scheme.

Councillor Muldoon said: “I was delighted to team up with the dedicated team at Fauldhouse CDT to promote Living Wage week.”

Fauldhouse CDT was set up by local residents to work with the local community to secure resources and assets to support change for the benefit of all residents.

They own and run the Hub and Eastfield Community Centre in Fauldhouse, as well as operating a number of worthwhile community projects such as a volunteer lead Timebank and Cycle without Age project.

Faudhouse CDT manager Julie Smith said: “We are proud to be an accredited Living Wage employer, making sure that all our staff members and sessional workers are paid a fair wage.

“As a voluntary organisati­on set up to benefit the community, it’s essential that we are an ethical employer.”
