Gymnasts on a high
It’s been a busy - and successful - period for West Lothian Artistic Gymnastics Club who have celebrated some terrific results recently.
Five club members have been selected for the men’s artistic performance pathway programme following successful trials.
Logan Kerr, Leo Murray, Kyle Millar, Rio Johnston and Peter Ritch are part of the 13-strong group selected for the programme, which allows the gymnasts and coaches the opportunity to train at South Essex gym and Sport Scotland Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre alongside Scotland’s top gymnasts.
Meanwhile, club duo Cameron Lyn and Aidan Jordaan will represent Scotland later this month at the Austria Future Cup, with WLAGC head coach John Campbell being selected as the team coach and WLAGC coach Andrew Mackie also travelling as a judge.
They aren’t the only club members who will be suiting up for Scotland as Ellie Russell, who competed at the Commonwealth Games in Australia earlier this year, taking part in the Sandra Clark Cup on November 17, with yet again a WLAGC head coach, Becki Campbell, being recognised for their efforts by being appointed team coach for the trip.
Following the tremendous success of the club’s gymnasts at individual competitions in September in Perth, WLAGC entered three teams for the team competitions recently.
One Level Six team and two Level Five teams represented the club with fine results.
The girls all performed fantastically well with the Level Six team placing sixth overall across the 34 in Scotland, while individual third place finishes went to Kayla Jones in the overall competition and Anna Keogh on floor.
The Level Five A team were in fine form as they grabbed the silver medal in the team event.
In the individual competitions, there was a first on vault for Kerry McGinlay, second on bar for Freya Purves and thirds on vault for both Hannah Anderson and Julia Walker.
The B team also produced as they finished fourth overall, while notable individual performances came from Ruby Homan (second on bars), Olivia Holman (third on vault), and Aimee Sneddon (fourth on bars).
West Lothian Artistic Gymnastics Club is currently growing from strength to strength and has recently expanded its pre-school open play session for children aged between 18 months and five years.
