Livi deserve praise from pundits

-

Sigh. We just drew with double treble winners Celtic at home – a club that just spent over two million pounds on disco lights – but instead of me writing about another tremendous performance from the heroes in amber, I find myself having to defend our style of play and pitch once again.

These players and this club, no matter how small a fan base we have, have earned the right to be playing top-flight football. We have taken to it like a duck to water and the players and fans are loving it as we continue to shock Scottish football.

Instead of hearing about this incredible achievement from a club that’s run on a limited budget and with the help of several volunteers, the results are tarnished by nonsense from folk using the pitch or our style of play as an excuse for our upturn in fortunes as the bigger teams fail to pick up the points at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

The name of the stadium itself is frowned upon – God forbid a team living within its means and trying to generate some income through sponsorship - let alone setting itself up as a community club with a pitch that is more than adequate for the Champions League but isn’t good enough for some football snobs.

It’s frustrating because the players deserve all the praise in the world for consistently getting results against teams that are paying millions.

But instead it’s tarnished by people who can’t see the real story that’s right in front of them – a small well-organised team who have worked miracles to get to where they are just now.

Perhaps that’s why none of our heroes have been looked at by national team boss Alex McLeish. Maybe he should take in a game of ours at some point and start picking in-form players.

Our next game is in a fortnight away at Ibrox, it’s another game we aren’t expected to get anything from but nothing would surprise me about this team.
