December key to Dec
Gallagher eyes points
Livingston defender Declan Gallagher believes the club’s busy December schedule is the perfect chance for them to prove they belong in the Premiership.
The Lions face eight games during the course of the month — including three next week — and the defender is keen to pick up as many points as possible as they look to cement their place in the top flight.
He said: “The league is very tight and things change every week because of that, but I think we’ve proved so far that we are more than capable of challenging any team in this league.
“There’s really nothing to fear for us because we know what we can do and the aim during December is to continue to show that we belong in this league because we’ll be playing a lot of games against very good teams in a short space of time.
“We knew going into the season that if we kept up the work-rate that this group of guys have shown over the last two or three years, then some teams would be surprised and I think that is what’s happened. We’re a really solid team unit across all areas and I think that has shown in most games this season and that’s what we want to continue to show.”
The frantic month started with a comprehensive win over Motherwell — a victory the 27-year-old said was needed — and he hopes the side can replicate their consistency across the month.
He commented: “We had a very good start to what is going to be a busy month with the win over Motherwell.
“There will have been folk asking whether the bubble had burst but we never felt that because our performances haven’t been bad.
“It was probably a win that we needed after the last few results but the consistency has been there with performances.
“It’s going to be a wee bit more challenging and tiring on the legs but if you asked any player if they’d rather train or play games I’m sure they would all say play games.
“We’re going to enjoy the test and we have a good squad and we’ll all be looking after ourselves to make sure we can be at our best every game and see where that takes us.”
