WL gents bring A game to beat joint top team

-

West Lothian gents produced the best performance of their up and down A Division Premier League campaign and in doing so lifted the spirits of both team and support with a commanding 19 shot away victory (94-75) over joint leaders West of Scotland.

It was only West Lothian’s third win in six games but the reward was substantial in that it eased relegation zone concerns by moving the under pressure stars of the Inveralmond Stadium four points clear of second from bottom Aberdeen and six clear of an Elgin side currently sitting at the foot of the table.

Wins on the three rinks skipped by Calum Logan, Neil Speirs and Craig Moss reflected a strong and vibrant team performance across the West of Scotland carpet given that the only setback was the minor defeat of James Speirs.

Logan led the charge to victory as he skipped Darren Pearce, Raymond Logan and Cameron Greer to a 28-17 win while massive support in the shape of a 28-19 win came from Neil Speirs and his front three of Bryan Cooper, Ian Drysdale, and Des Hagart.

Craig Moss battled hard to skip George Sneddon, Jamie Aitken and Mark Allison to a 20-18 win, while a 20-18 defeat was damage limitation by James Speirs and his rink of Richard Mark, Connor Mckendrick, and Gary Orr

West Lothian’s next match is a tough one away to undefeated Falkirk a week on Saturday. Falkirk top the table with 12 points followed by West of Scotland and Lanarkshire both on eight.

Balbardie gents suffered a narrow seven shot defeat at Headwell (81-74) so continue to flirt with the relegation zone in Division 1 North, currently sitting in third bottom just one point ahead of Headwell and two ahead of Dundee.

A win for the rink of Calum Black, Alistair Wilson, Davy Ross and Ewan Shearer, a peel for David Rodgers, S. McBride, John Ellis and Sandy McDougall and a single shot defeat for Tam Whitfield Lindsay Forrest, Andy Forrest, and Mark Bonar made for a tight finish.

But there was no joy for Walter McDougall and his rink of Jim Speirs, Iain Grant and Scott McMaster who suffered a double figure defeat.

Balbardie have the chance to improve their prospects when they entertain Coatbridge at Bathgate on Saturday, December 15.

West Lothian ladies had home carpet advantage against East Fife in the East Premier Division but failed to live with the league leaders and they suffered a crushing 72-36 defeat ,while play in Division 1 East saw Balbardie nose-dived to a 73-43 defeat at home to Headwell.

West Lothian seniors raised the roof at the Inveralmond stadium with a thumping 77- 42 win over Teviotdale but Balbardie were put through the ringer in a 65-48 defeat at home to leaders East Lothian.
