Rose back in top spot

Preston Ath .......... 3

Linlithgow Rose ... 5

Linlithgow Rose jumped back to the top of the East of Scotland Conference C table after coming out on top of an eight-goal thriller in Prestonpans.

A terrific first-half display from the visitors saw them lead 4-1 at the break.

Ross Barbour opened the scoring on 25 minutes before the lead was swiftly doubled on the half hour mark when Tommy Coyne was on target. Preston pulled one back within four minutes, but there was still time for the Rose to net twice before the interval through Owen Ronald and Darren Smith as five goals were scored in a blistering 17 minute spell.

Linlithgow appeared to be in total control but a quick-fire double saw the deficit reduced to just one after 73 minutes, before Ronald sealed the deal in injury-time to ensure the Rose were able to return home with the three points.

They climbed above West Lothian rivals Broxburn Athletic to lead the way in Conference C after the Burn were in Football National Qualifying Cup action away to Penicuik Athletic.

Unfortunately for the visitors, it would be a 3-1 defeat.

Lumbert Kataleza opened the scoring for the hosts midway through the first half before doubling his tally eight minutes later.

Broxburn’s task was made all the more difficult as Arron Ponton headed home just after the break while Conor Kelly grabbed a late consolation.
