Santa and his sleigh will be paying an early visit to the streets of Mid Calder on the following nights in December: Thurs. 13th December, Commencing 6.30pm- The Steadings, Kennedie Park, Tenant Park, Somers Park, Spottiswoo­de, Maryfield Park, Bishops Park, Caroline Park, Caroline Gardens. Fri. 14th December Commencing 6.30pm-Calderhous­e Road, Braeside Park, Torphicen Avenue, Sandilands Drive, Beech Avenue, Westgate, Braeside Gardens, Ochiltree Court, Ochiltree Cres./Drive. Sat. 15th December Commencing 4.30pm- New Paper Mill Road, Avenue Park, Cunnigar Gardens, Combfoot Cottages, Avenue Park West, Market Street, Main Street, Almond Side, Wallace Mill Gardens, Bank Street. This year the sleigh will drive to the end of your street before Santa sees the children on the way back down. He will stop to see children at specific points where someone will be holding a ‘Santa stop here’ sign. Please gather at these points. Local jog / running group are looking to attract more members to their informal mixed ability group. Mid Calder Community Council hold their monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in The Glenalmond Church Hall. The next meeting will be tonight, Thursday 6th December at 7.30pm. Kirk of Calder Sunday School Sunday Stars and the Mini Kirks meet in the Glenalmond Hall on Sundays from 10.30am till 11.30am. We usually meet in the church to start with, then go down to the hall for songs, games, stories and fun. Fairtrade Cafe welcomes anyone who would like to join us on a Tuesday morning between 10am and 12 noon in the Glenalmond Hall where home baking is on sale and all funds raised go to street children of Peru c/o the Vine Trust. Come along and help us to promote fair trade and make new friends. The Fair Trade café is run by the Kirk of Calder.

Clothing bank is situated to the front of the Glenalmond Hall. Please bring any good quality clean clothes, belts, paired shoes, ties, handbags (in a bag) and place in the recycling bank. Events The main events will take place on Saturday December 8 with a Christmas Market in the old Scotmid store, Santa’s Grotto (with face painters and balloon modelling) in Broxburn Parish Church Hall. There is a small charge of £2 which covers a gift from Santa (last entry at 1.45pm) Tea, coffee and snacks will be available. Santa arrives for the Christmas Tree Lights switch and carol service in Broxburn (outside old Library building) at 4.30pm (approx) and Christmas Tree Lights switch on at School Place, Uphall at 5.50pm. Carol Service at Uphall Community Centre 6pm-6.30pm. Hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies will be served. The Bridge 19-40 Union Canal Society will also be running Santa boat trips on the Union Canal during December (weather permitting). All trips must be pre-booked, tickets can be booked at the Canal Societies Facebook page or at Eventbrite. Coffee Morning A coffee morning is being organised by parents to raise funds for P6/7 camp. This will be held this Saturday, December 8 from 10am- 1pm at Middleton Hall Bowling Club. Entry is by donation. Please feel free to let friends and family know, the more the merrier! All monies raised will be shared equally by the children going to camp (P6 & P7). Donations for the raffle include a signed Hearts football and lots of other great raffle prizes as well as baking, sandwiches, tea/coffee available to buy. Further donations would be most welcome. CHRISTMAS POST DEADLINE FOR CARDS FOR BROXBURN IS DECEMBER 15 – Get your stamps now. “Buy your stamps early for Christmas” Cards will be collected on December 8 and 15 but cards for the Broxburn area must be received by December 8. We have decided to keep the price of stamps at 30p, which is still well below PO prices. Stamps are available from Lynne McEwen, Myra Macpherson, Marion Millar and Harry Macpherson. Cards are delivered ONLY to Threemilet­own, (NOT Fauchledea­n) Ecclesmach­an, Uphall, Uphall Station, Dechmont, and Broxburn (up to December 8).Christmas Stamps will be available at Countdown to Christmas on Saturday, November 24.

War Memorial Permission from the war commission has been granted for war names to be erected on panels around the war memorial. This will include names of people from Uphall, Broxburn, Threemilet­ow, Bangour and Dechmont Memorials. If anyone knows names of anyone not commemorat­ed please contact Mary Boylan (Dechmont Post Office) by the end of December. This will be done by June 28 2019.
