A royal date for William
A student f rom Broxburn selected for a prestigious scholarship has received his award at an international royal ceremony in Madrid.
William Chan, who is studying for his Masters at the University of Strathclyde, flew to the headquarters of ScottishPower’s parent company Iberdrola last week for the award ceremony hosted by Queen Letizia of Spain, alongside fellow scholarship recipients from the UK, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and the USA.
William was officially presented with his award by Queen Letizia at a reception held at the Iberdrola Madrid HQ.
The ScottishPower Scholarship programme, which is part of a wider Iberdrola group initiative, is supporting 16 students in postgraduate studies across energy, digital and environmental subjects at the UK’s most- esteemed universities including the University of Strathclyde, University of Glasgow, University of Liverpool and University of East Anglia this year.
The initiative launched in 2010 in response to the growing demand across the energy, digital and environmental sectors for more experts in those fields. It provides students with full enrolment costs for their chosen Masters as well as £1,200 each month to support living costs.
