Livi squander two goal lead in Perth

-

A second half collapse saw Livingston let a two goal lead slip and miss a penalty as they were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw away at St Johnstone.

A scintillating first-half display put the visitors well on track to pick up their first away league victory for 12 months.

They took the lead on 13 minutes when Aymen Souda found Stevie Lawless and the winger’s low cross was turned high into the net by Scott Pittman for Livi’s first league goal of the campaign.

The Lions continued to dominate and Pittman looked set to grab his second midway through the first half.

The 27-year-old’s strike from eight yards out looked certain to ripple the net but Saints goalkeeper Zander Clark produced a brilliant save to tip it wide.

The away side were in almost total control and it was no surprise when they added to their lead against a disjointed Saints just before the interval.

Pittman was at the heart of things once again for Gary Holt’s men and he repaid the earlier favour by teeing up Lawless on the edge of the box.

The former Partick Thistle man duly drove a fine strike into the bottom corner.

The hosts were handed a lifeline back into the contest 10 minutes after the re- start through an uncharacteristic mistake from Keaghan Jacobs.

The midfielder’s under- hit passback to keeper Ross Stewart was pounced on by Michael O’Halloran with Matthew Kennedy then being presented with the simplest of finishes.

The comeback was complete with eight minutes left when substitute Callum Hendry was the quickest to react after Stewart had repelled Chris Kane’s initial effort with a smart save.

The youngster gleefully slammed the ball into the net for the equaliser.

Despite squandering their lead, Livingston were presented with a glorious chance to come away with all three points when referee Andrew Dallas adjudged Richard Foster to have fouled Lyndon Dykes inside the penalty area.

The Aussie striker dusted himself down to take the spot- kick but fluffed his lines with a poor effort that was comfortably saved by Clark as the Lions were forced to settle for a point.
