New twist in Juliana’s dedication to better health

-

A woman who spent a huge chunk of her life helping people with eating disorders has moved into massage therapy.

Juliana Dorman started her own cooking classes in the 90s to encourage people who wanted to cook healthy meals on a tight budget.

That led to her becoming a dietetic support worker in a private hospital for adolescents and adults with severe eating disorders.

She said patients with eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia often need to relearn what eating healthily is and size portions correctly to get to a normal weight.

From there she moved to the NHS and the regional eating disorders unit at St John’s Hospital.

After nearly a decade of working on the front line of an in-patient environment she decided to bow out and find something less draining.

Juliana explained: “Eating disorders is a difficult, challenging environment and healthy patients who left would often be readmitted many times, having gone back to their previous ways and lifestyle.

“Successfully treated patients went off and lived their lives but I watched many wonderful, tortured people fade and in many cases found they had passed away. I felt very helpless and hopeless.”

She began working at a private gym, instructing classes and personal training .while continuing to work at the hospital but knew she would have to choose between the two one day.

Juliana said:“Now I feel I have found what I’ve been looking for. A client will come to me with a physical issue and leave feeling better than they came in, in many cases completely recovered.

“Its’a fantastic feeling, being able to heal people and alleviate them from pain and discomfort.”

Juliana is now offering a range of physical therapies from her Livingston base. For moreinformation phone 07717 101 495 or email forme.jd@gmail.com.
