Burn stun Blue Brazil to earn a cup replay

-

sclaffed his clearance but recovered to prevent Jordan Allan from tapping home.

Jamie Todd then went close with a header at the back post as Gary Bollan’s men came into the game and started to create chances.

If the half- time break allowed Cowdenbeath a chance to regroup it certainly did not work.

Gordon Donaldson got on the end of a magnificent Jack Beesley cross two minutes after the restart but could not find the net.

Miller, who netted a hat-trick in their first round win over East Stirlingshire, found the net on 55 minutes but he was flagged for offside after nodding Locke’s cross home.

The Fifers gradually took control of the second half and Wallace had to be alert to tip a scooping header over the bar before a moment of brilliance fired them into the lead. A throw-in found its way to Cox, who produced a stunning overhead kick that nestled into the top corner despite the best efforts of Wallace in the Athletic goal.

Broxburn, though, are made of stern stuff and refused to wilt. Conor Kelly was introduced as an attacking substitution as they threw men forward in search of an equaliser.

It came with just three minutes remaining. Locke was fed the ball inside the penalty box and turned his man inside and out then fired at goal. The ball travelled through a number of bodies before finding the net and sending the away fans into delirium.

They get to do it all over again on Saturday at Albyn Park. Broxburn Athletic’s debut Scottish Cup run is not over just yet.

McNaughton had special praise for the travelling fans, saying: “It was a fantastic support, utterly incredible and I’m really pleased for them.

“I think we’ve performed well today. To get a goal three minutes from the end shows the winning mentality of the team. I’m really pleased with how every single player performed and hopefully we can do it next week and get another big crowd.”
