David at the double to rescue Hoose

-

Fauldhouse United are the sole remaining representatives in the Scottish Junior Cup from West Lothian following their 2-1 away win against Thornton Hibs in Saturday’s third round.

David O’Donnell netted both goals for the Hoose as they got the better of the side sitting directly below them in the East Region South Superleague table.

Bathgate Thistle and Linlithgow Rose CFC both put up spirited displays but ultimately fell to defeat against a pair of West Region giants.

The Jags took a 68th minute lead as Darren Dalrymple’s free-kick was deflected into the net but the Medda scored three times in quick succession to seal a 3-1 win.

Calum Gow headed home from a corner-kick on 73 minutes before they turned the tie on its head three minutes later through Darren Jones.

Mark McLennan rounded off the scoring five minutes from time.

Linlithgow Rose CFC, in their first season as a Junior outfit, put in a tremendous performance but were unable to hold on against Pollok.

Tony Coutts opened the scoring eight minutes from time before former Livingston striker Iain Russell netted a 90th minute penalty for a 2-0 win.

In league play, Livingston United took the derby day honours with a 2-0 home win over Harthill Royal as Jason Gregory and Cameron Stokes found the net for Andy Malone’s men in the East Region South Superleague clash.

Stoneyburn have been scoring goals aplenty this term but Barry Craig’s strike was enough to give them a 1-0 win at Rosyth that sees them jump to the top of the South Premier League.

At the other end, West Calder United are still without a point following a 7-0 loss away to Lochgelly Albert.

Both Pumpherston and Armadale Thistle progressed into the third round of the Fife and Lothians Cup.

Pumphy almost threw away a four goal lead but held on for a 4-3 victory over Newburgh. Barry Nicholson, Rees Smith and a brace from Jack Beaumont put them firmly in charge before a frantic comeback saw Newburgh net three times in the final 15 minutes.

Armadale Thistle needed penalties to get the better of Kennoway Star Hearts after a 2-2 draw with the Jags taking the shoot-out 4-1.

Hearts ended the game with eight men while both Thistle goals during the 90 minutes came from the spot and were converted by Kyle Sampson.
