this week Ian Robertson and his team are tackling the problem of driver being dazzled by headlights.

He said:“Half of regular drivers in an RaC survey say they are suffering more form the effect of dazzling headlights than they were just 12 months ago.

“We asked followers of the garage the same question in a poll and 191 people voted in total. those voting‘I suffer more’were 173 votes, 91 per cent of the votes.

“Being dazzled by headlights at night is an issue that isn’t going away and seems to be getting worse.

“a few simple maintenance tasks can make night driving easier.

“Clear car windows and ensure that your windscreen is clean, inside and out.

“You should always make sure your windscreen is clear of condensation and ice. Windscreens often get a thin hazy film on the inside. You can remove this film easily by using a water and vinegar solutions.

“Correct mirror adjustment can reduce headlight glare. Most driers have a manual rear view mirror.

“For night-time driving all you need to do is flip the tab at the bottom of the mirror which dims the lights behind by changing the angle of reflection, allowing you to still see what’s behind you while preventing being dazzled by the bright headlights.

“Keep your headlights clean.”

Ian added:“Reduce internal lights and reduce the brightness of the dashboard lights. this should limit reflections and stop you having to readjust your eyes from the dark road to the dashboard.

“Regularly check if your headlights are all in full working order.

“If you’re not sure drop into the garage for a quick beam check.

“Having fully working lights is essential for safety on the road and at the same time having them set for the correct beam will reduce you being the cause of dazzling another driver.”
