Hoose lose top spot after gaffer sees red

- CALLUM CARSON

Fauldhouse United were knocked off the top of the East Region South Superleague following just their second defeat of the season.

The Hoose went down 2-0 to Armadale Thistle in difficult conditions at Volunteer Park.

It was a day to forget for the Hoose, who had gaffer Jon Connolly dismissed in the opening minutes before falling two goals behind at the halftime interval.

Both sides creat e d numerous chances in a pulsating local derby but the hosts made theirs count. Liam Gray opened the scoring for the Jags on 25 minutes before Scott Dalziel headed home eight minutes before the break.

After the interval United squandered a slew of chances to get themselves back into the match. Thistle keeper Reece Murdoch was in inspired form as they held on for three valuable points.

Elsewhere in the top flight of the East Region Juniors there were 4- 0 reversals for both Whitburn and Harthill Royal.

The Burnie went down at home to Thornton Hibs, who jumped above Fauldhouse on goal difference with the win, while it was the away day blues for Harthill as they lost to Kennoway Star Hearts.

In the South Premier League the goals may have dried up a bit recently for Stoneyburn but that has not mattered in the slightest as they extended their lead at the top to five points thanks to their second successive 1-0 victory.

Linlithgow Rose CFC took the derby day honours with a 4- 1 win over West Calder United that leaves the Cauther searching for their first point of what has been a challenging season.

In the East of Scotland Premier Division it was a disastrous afternoon for West Lothian clubs.

Linlithgow Rose’s clash away at Tranent was postponed, while there were defeats against sides in the relegation zone for both Blackburn United and Broxburn Athletic.

United suffered a 2-0 away loss at Whitehill Welfare and missed out on the chance to create some breathing space between themselves and the bottom three.

Athletic’s promotion hopes took a knock as they suffered their first league defeat of the campaign in stunning fashion, going down 3-0 away to basement boys Sauchie.
