HOLT CAN’T WAIT FOR TV GERS CLASH

Holt says players are up to the challenge

- CALLUM CARSON

Livingston boss Gary Holt says he can’t wait to tackle Rangers in front of the TV cameras on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions entertain Steven Gerrard’s men at the Tony Macaroni Arena hoping to get back to winning ways following a spell of just one win in nine games.

That solitary victory, though, came at home to Celtic in another televised game.

And the former Scotland international believes these are the sort of fixtures everyone at the club should be up for.

Speaking to the Courier, he said:

“I can’t wait. It’s live on the TV in front of a full house on Sunday. It gets the juices flowing to be honest. These are the sort of games you want to be involved in

“It’s going to be tough. We know that, of course it is, but they’ll know it’s going to be a tough game as well.

“It’s going to be a challenge and our boys know what to expect but they’ll be up for it.”

Much has been made of the difference between the Lions’ form home and away, with the gaffer hoping to keep up their impressive run of results in West Lothian – but he believes they are actually playing better football away from home.

He said: “I want to go and win the game and fortunately when we’re at home we seem to have that wee extra yard that takes us over the line.

“I would actually say we’re playing better football away from home than we are at home but for some reason we’re not getting over the line and it’s horrible because you’re labelled as a side that struggles to win away from home.”

Scott Robinson is set to return from illness to be in contention for a starting role while Aymen Souda’s two- game suspension has been served.

However, it could be a depleted squad once again for Livi, with Holt saying: “Hopefully we’ll maybe have a couple of guys back but we’ll need to wait and see.

“We’ve got Scott Robinson back from illness and Aymen Souda back from his suspension but there’s a couple of boys struggling with illness, which happens at this time of the year.

“I’m not going to moan about it and there’s going to be no sympathy towards us. It is what it is.

“All I ask for is everyone fighting for the jersey and giving it their all and they have been doing that.”
