Callum Currie also scooped a gold medal. Ethan and Marcus clinched silver while Shaun and Callum Telford grabbed bronze medals.

All of the GMSMA students have been with the club through all the children’s classes and showed continued improvemen­t as they rose up the age groups and rankings.

The following week Ben and Shaun turned to kickboxing at the ICO World Championsh­ips and both were in stunning form.

Ben was crowned world champion in the light contact under 60kg sparring as well as winning silver in points sparring.

Team-mate Shaun was also in impressive form as he clinched a pair of silver medals.

He finished second in the under 55kg light contact and points sparring.

Kaczmarek commented: “Both boys made it through to the finals in all divisions after going through some strong students.

“It was a great two weeks of competitio­ns for our guys. They all train hard and attend weekly sessions as well as putting in extra and taking part in competitio­ns each month.”

He added: “It was a great way to end the year and prepare for the World Championsh­ips in Kazakhstan next month.”

The club, which has gyms in Bathgate and Livingston, was founded by Grand Master Sutherland, who passed away in September.

Her career in the sport spanned 45 years and saw her become only the second female taekwon-do 9th degree grand master in 2017.

The recent success of the young GMSMA pupils show that her legacy will continue for years to come.
