Party time for school

a West Lothian primary school had a week-long celebratio­n to mark its 60th anniversar­y.

Blackburn primary marked its birthday by inviting all pupils to create their own projects to be presented at assembly.

parents, teachers and children gathered for the event where pupils sang and a photo gallery was presented to the audience before the cutting of a specially-designed cake.

the cake was designed by p7 pupil Max paxton Horrocks – and every tier had its own flavour.

afterwards the adults stayed behind for a buffet and the children had their own party the following day.

Blackburn primary commemorat­ed its 60th birthday with a week of events and parties and all of the pupils were asked to create their own projects to be presented at assembly.

Headteache­r Janet Clarkson said: “it was a very busy week and we even had a drone that came up to take pictures.

“all the kids went into formation to create a giant number 60 as it flew overhead and took a picture.

“We then had the assembly with everyone in attendance and then the parents stayed behind for a tour of the classrooms and a buffet.

“the next day, when everyone was away, the children were given time to have their own party.”

the school had been preparing for the anniversar­y for months and pupils from all age groups were given their own projects. primary1 had a photo booth to take their own pictures of the special occasion.

primary 2- 3 had a silent disco where the pupils listened to music from the past 60 years. p4 created a project looking at all the world events in the past 60 years including the Berlin Wall falling and the twin towers being attacked on 9/11.

primary 5-7 created a timeline of Blackburn from the slave owner george Moncrieff building Blackburn House to the town evolving from a small cottonmanu­facturing town into a centre for coal mining.
