Charles Dundas
Our economy affects all of us, not just bankers and big business, and for far too long Britain – and hard-working parts of it like Livingston – has not had the economy it deserves.
Under this Conservative government, our economy is weak, too many people can’t live a secure, happy and fulfilling life. Too many businesses face crippling uncertainty over their future; investment is down significantly since 2016; and productivity has been grim – with no growth at all in the last 12 months.
This government has ignored all these long-term economic problems. We have a persistent trade deficit and, more importantly, levels of inequality that are both socially and economically damaging.
The Liberal Democrats have earmarked £50billion to reverse under-investment from the Conservatives to regions outwith London.
This spending will go towards major, sustainable infrastructure projects, like increasing the availability of charging points for electric vehicles.
Only the Liberal Democrats have a credible plan to stop Brexit and invest £50billion in places like West Lothian, promoting growth, connectivity and enhancing our environment.
We will give the Scottish Parliament and the Council a meaningful say in how this funding is used, so that projects can be prioritised to offer locals the most value.
Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to stop Brexit so we can invest billions across the UK, helping to tackle ingrained inequality.
