LIVINGSTON ATHLETIC CLUB

The Scottish East District Cross Country Championsh­ips took place at the weekend with 12 Livingston AC athletes participat­ing.

Rowan Whitworth and Andrew McGill won their respective races with Isla Calvert taking second place. Club results were as follows: Under- 13 girls: 17th Mia Sokoluk (13.43), 55th Imogen Marshall (16.13). Under-13 boys: 1st Rowan Whitworth (11.27).

Under-15 boys: 11th Logan Beagley (15.09), 21st Elliot Frame (15.49).

Under-17 women: 2nd Isla Calvert (22.12), 19th Shannon Prevost (25.54). Under- 17 men: 1st Andrew McGill (19.10), 27th Jonathan Marshall (22.51). Under-20 women: 7th Sarah Calvert (26.13), 10th Katie Craig (27.06).

Under-20 men: 33rd Cameron Tweedie (28.41).

Meanwhile, at parkrun events on Saturday morning, club members produced a string of fine results.

At Livingston, Fraser Holman was third overall in a time of 18.04 while Hazel Ross was first in her age category in 26.22.

Yasmin Eddie ( 28.39) and Kirsten Morris ( 35.24) both crossed the line in second place in their respective age categories.

At the Polkemmet Country parkrun, Alan Morris was first for his age category with a time of 23.07, while Grant McLean’s time of 23.48 saw him finish third in his age category.

Alison Simpson tackled the Ury Riverside parkrun and was third female finisher - and first in her age category - with a time of 24.49.

LOTHIAN RUNNING CLUB

Sarah Inglis retained her half-marathon title at the Run Barbados Marathon Weekend where over the space of three days she also won the mile and finished runner-up in the 10k.

Inglis ended her successful year on a high by completing a hat-trick in the 13.1mile event on Sunday with her time of 1:22.16 seeing her add to her joint victory in 2017 and her triumph last year.

She also won the women’s mile on Friday evening in 5.01 and clocked 36.20 when finishing second behind Canadian Natasha Wodak in the 10km on Saturday during the three-day festival of running on the eastern Caribbean island.

“I’m really happy. Tired, but really happy,” said Inglis, who is based in Canada and has improved across the board in 2019 with personal bests in events ranging from 4:11.51 for 1500m up to 1:12.23 for the half-marathon.

“The race went really well and I finished strong so it was really good,” she added.

“This is the fastest time I’ve done out of the three years I’ve been here. I’m just excited that because the prize is a return trip, I can come back here next year.”

On home soil, the cross country season continued with the East District Championsh­ip held over a wet and muddy course at Piper Dam, near Dundee.

Lothian Running Club were represente­d in both the senior men’s and women’s races as well as the boys’ under-13s and under-15s races. Club results were as follows:

Under-13 boys: 39th Jonathan Collings (13.17).

Under-15 boys: 56th Murray Close (18.02).

Senior women: 55th Fiona MacFarlane (41.03), 64th Claire Harris (42.17).

Senior men: 89th James Beattie (33.15), 121st Colin Partidge (34.51), 146th Brian Lees ( 35.54), 216th Andrew Corrigan ( 40.21), 236th Kenny Mearns ( 43.27), 246th Ewart Scott (45.17), 252nd Mark Collings (46.47).

Mike Lieberman reached a milestone in Saturday morning’s Portobello parkrun. This was the LRC veteran’s 250th parkrun appearance.

Mike has been a consistent performer with every run within a four minute window from 20.15 to 24.15. The bulk of Mike’s runs have been at Potobello where he has raced 127 times.

He regularly makes the trip down to the Kent coast where he has ran the Whitsable parkrun on 91 occasions.

The remainder of his runs have been at Edinburgh (22), Meadowmill and Falkirk (two) as well as solitary appearance­s at Stretford, Keswick, The Pastures, Penrith, Clover Point and Druridge Bay.

Elsewhere on Saturday morning’s parkruns, 24 LRC members were among 242 runners who took part at Livingston parkrun with six finishing in the top-10.

Josh Dack was first to complete the 5k course in 16.58 and he was followed home by Sam McIntosh (2nd, 17.30), Ryan Kirkland (4th, 18.14), Euan McInnes (5th, 18.19), Alan Knowles (7th, 18.54), Sandy Orr (10th, 20.02).

For the second successive week the LRC ladies filled the first three finishing positions with Lana Turnbull ( 19.59) followed by Andrea Cameron (21.41) and Yvonne Crilley (21.43).
