No let-up as leaders continue winning run

Five in a row keeps Livi on top

- CALLUM CARSON

Livingston United made it five wins on the bounce with a five-star performance at home to Whitburn.

The Station Park men ensured they kept themselves top of the East Region South Superleague table with an emphatic 5-1 victory over their West Lothian rivals.

Despite the final scoreline it was the visitors who started the brighter of the two sides. They took a 20th minute lead in stunning fashion when Darren Tomaszewski collected the ball on the edge of the box before cutting inside on his right foot and curling a wonderful effort into the top corner.

United got themselves on level terms within five minutes when a long ball over the top was latched on to by Chris O’Kane, who calmly slotted the ball between the legs of Whitburn keeper Dougie Horne.

Martin Russell looked to have restored the away side’s lead but saw his strike from just inside the box clatter back off the woodwork. United promptly netted their second moments later when Andy McQuillan was unmarked to tap home after an initial effort had been blocked.

McQuillan grabbed his second in the early stages of the second-half when a deflected effort looped over Horne and into the net.

O’Kane joined his teammate on a brace around the hour mark as he was played in on the left and dinked an effort over Horne and into the far corner to all but wrap up the points.

United were not finished, though, as Chris Rooney tapped home from close range to complete the scoring 15 minutes from time.

Armadale Thistle took the derby bragging rights against Harthill Royal with a 4- 0 triumph at Volunteer Park.

The hosts coped better with the horrendous conditions and found themselves three goals up within 25 minutes. Scott Dalziel opened the scoring before a double from Kyle Sampson.

The visitors enjoyed more of the play after the break but were unable to force their way back into the game, with Thistle grabbing their fourth on 77 minutes as Liam Kane let fly from distance.

Pumpherston remain second following a remarkable comeback from two goals down to clinch a 3-2 home win over Kennoway Star Hearts.

The away side netted twice in the opening 19 minutes but Pumphy were level at the break as Mark Wilkins and then Rees Smith found the net.

John Batt completed the turnaround two minutes into the second half before a feisty end to the game saw both Darren Carroll and Hassan Nyang dismissed for the hosts with Willie Campbell shown red for Hearts.

In the South Premier League Linlithgow Rose CFC fell just shy of matching Pumpherston but they were able to come from 2-0 down to clinch a 2-2 draw away at Newburgh.

West Calder United’s season to forget continued as they fell to a 5-0 loss away to Syngenta and remain without a point.

Fauldhouse United have been handed a tricky away tie in the fifth round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

They travel to West Region giants Pollok with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.

The Hoose booked their place in the last-16 in dramatic fashion as David O’Donnell netted a later winner as they defeated Bridge of Don Thistle 3-2 in Aberdeen.

Andy Duffy fired the visitors in front before Thistle turned the game around with two goals of their own.

However, Jack McIlveen grabbed his first goal for the club to level things up prior to O’Donnell’s dramatic late winner.
