FOLLOW LIAM’S LEAD

Holt urges Rangers goalie Robby to use loan spell as chance to shine

- CALLUM CARSON

Livingston boss Gary Holt has backed new signing Robby McCrorie to follow in the footsteps of former Lion Liam Kelly.

Kelly first joined Livi on loan from Rangers for the 2016/17 season and helped guide the club to the League One title, before joining on a permanent deal last term.

His string of impressive displays not only earned him a maiden call-up to the Scotland squad, but also a move to English Championship side Queen’s Park Rangers, where he has excelled this term.

And Ho l t insists

McCrorie, who has signed on loan from the Gers for the remainder of the season, can use his former Ibrox colleague as inspiration as he looks to take a huge step forward in his career.

Holt said: “Liam came here, then went back to Rangers, then came here permanently to have a right good go at the top flight.

“The club did a lot of work with him and he was willing to put the work in that we wanted — and look what he has achieved.

“You want boys who are hungry to come and play, and Robby made a big impression.”

Despite having already signed Ryan Schofield on loan from Huddersfield Town duri n g the transfer window, Holt insisted the chance to bring in McCrorie, who had been on loan at Queen of the South, was too good to turn down.

He commented: “Ryan has a thigh injury so we needed a keeper. It wasn’t something we were necessarily looking for, but that happens.

“The opportunity to bring Robby in was there and we sat down as a staff to talk about it and we thought it was a no-brainer.

“I’m a big admirer of Robby, I’ve seen him a few times and we’re delighted to have him.”

Ross Stewart, who started the season as Livi’s first-choice keeper, is expected to be loaned out to Queen of the South for the rest of the season.
