Cycle group raising 30k for floodlights

-

“The West Lothian Cycle Circuit will be a world class facility and a massive boost to the local community. It will be a safe, traffic- free space where people of all ages and abilities can gain confidence, and improve their physical and mental health.

“Floodlights will allow people to be active during the winter or dark evenings, so locals can continue to have fun using the facility in group activities or drop-in sessions, without worrying about traffic or potholes.”

Each floodlight costs £1185 and the circuit requires 27 lights around the perimeter, totalling £32,000.

Sir Chris Hoy is backing the project and said: “I would never have got into cycling if it hadn’t been for the facilities available to me as a kid. Building this circuit will provide more people of all ages and abilities the opportunities they need to cycle for fun, heath, sport and travel.”

The crowdfunder will take place throughout February, and the group have curated exclusive rewards for people making donations and want as many people as possible to attend the free launch party.

Project worker Pamela Barnes said: “At the party we’ll be premiering our amazing crowdfunder video and offering first dibs on our rewards, we’ll also have a countdown to the launch and some special sporting guests.”

The Cycle Circuit project is led by Linlithgow Community Development Trust.

The trust have been working with West Lothian Council, Sport Scotland and Scottish Cycling and are ready to begin construction planning with the council.

The launch party will be start at 8pm on Thursday, February 6, at the Lowport Centre in Linlithgow.

Free tickets to the party can be reserved at https://wlcccrowdfunder. eventbrite.com
