Burnie boss leaves rival without a job

That made it difficult for the Jags and it was no surprise that Whitburn would go on to seal the victory thanks to a double from Bolam.

Elsewhere in the League Cup, Harthill Royal edged past Sauchie CFC 1-0, while Armadale Thistle crashed out 3-2 at home to Newburgh despite taking the lead on two occasions.

An entertaining first half saw both sides score twice with Scott Dalziel netting either side of a Kyle Fraser goal for the visitors.

Newburgh would equalise on 37 minutes through Scott Sutherland before the same player scored the decisive goal four minutes after the break.

West Lothian’s involvement in the Scottish Cup is over for another year after Fauldhouse United’s bid for a giantkilling and spot in the quarter- finals proved fruitless against West Region heavyweights Pollok.

The Glasgow side ran out 4-0 winners but the Hoose were still very much in the tie before Dean Richardson saw red on 55 minutes for a challenge on Gary McCann.

Chris Dallas had netted the only goal of the game up until that point but ‘Lok grabbed three more after the sending-off.

Stuart McCann scored from the resulting free-kick before former Livi favourite Iain Russell grabbed a late brace – the second coming from the penalty spot.

Fauldhouse gaffer Jon Connolly said: “With 10 men here you’ve got no chance. But I can’t fault our lads.”

Livingston United were dumped out of the Fife and Lothians Cup as they lost 2-1 at home to Thornton Hibs.

Andy McQuillan grabbed United’s goal at Station Park but it wasn’t enough to get the better of the cup holders.

West Calder United, meanwhile, suffered a 3-0 away loss to Scone Thistle in the East Region Cup as their winless season continues.

Just two West Lothian teams were in league action on Saturday, but the results had a direct impact on top spot in both the South Superleague and South Premier League.

Pumpherston moved level on points with Livingston United atop the Superleague thanks to their 2-1 home victory over Lochore Welfare.

A quick- fire double from Jack Beaumont in the first half put the ‘Ston in a commanding position but they were made to fight all the way by their Fife visitors, who reduced the deficit but were unable to find a second goal.

The win means United have the advantage only on goal difference, while the top six are separated by just six points.

Stoneyburn suffered a second straight loss as they went down 3-2 to Lochgelly Albert and fell four points behind Rosyth.

Albert netted twice in the opening 15 minutes and Ryan Robertson’s double would prove fruitless for the away side.

They do, however, still have three games in hand over Rosyth.
