?? ?? On Friday 31 January, a group of Explorer Scouts from Livingston set out to find the best chip shop in Livingston. In a fundraising drive to purchase new tents and equipment due to the rapid growth of the Howden Howlers Explorer Scout Unit, 30 teenagers and their leaders met at Mari Blu in Deans before completing a zig-zag 15km walk down through Eliburn, Howden, Craigshill and Dedridge. They rated each chippy on factors such as taste, texture, warmth, greasiness and saltiness, with each chip shop generously donating a couple of bags of chips for the experiment. Leader Craig Browning said: “We’re really grateful to all of the chippies for making us so welcome on a damp dark night.
“We found it too difficult to separate Minerva in Howden and Merdo’s in Dedridge, so we’re crowning them joint winners.” The Explorer Scouts’ fundraising webpage can be found at www.gofundme. com/f/howden-howlers-esu
