Packaging firm to build £50m plant Councillor welcomes relocation to West Lothian
The recycled paper producer Saica Group has announced its intention to build a new £50million plant in West Lothian.
Saica’s new purposebuilt production facility will be built in Livingston by 2021 and will replace decommissioned sites in Edinburgh and Milngavie, near Glasgow.
The £50million investment comes as the company looks to address changes in customer demand and the aging of current facilities.
The move, due to be completed by the end of 2021, will see the decommissioning of Saica’s sites in Edinburgh and Milngavie into the new Livingston plant.
Saica’s Sheet Plant in Grangemouth is unaffected by the announcement.
Adam Haycock, regional director for Saica Pack Scotland, said: “This is a landmark day for Saica Pack and the wider company as we take a significant stepforward in Scotland. Once fully operational, our new Livingston site will offer the latest and most innovative technologies while improving our service and capacity.
“This new site gives us the capacity to invest further in the future as we want to remain a leading provider of corrugated packaging in Scotland and enhance our offering to our customers.”
Executive councillor for development and tourism Cathy Muldoon said: “We are delighted that Saica Group have chosen to re-locate and grow their business in West Lothian.
“West Lothian’s central location and dedicated workforce means that more and more companies are choosing to expand their business here.”
