New bridge to reopen in spring Meika appeals for a caring new owner
Drivers have been informed work on a bridge linking two West Lothian communities is set to finish.
A new £2.5m bridge which links the villages of Addiewell and Loganlea is set to be completed by the spring.
Roads manager, Graeme Malcolm, told a meeting of West Lothian Council’s Executive that work on the Skolie Burn Bridge was scheduled to be finished by the end of May.
It will mean that the 17 tonnes weight restriction imposed over 20 years ago can be lifted.
The bridge will now be open to all vehicles up to 44 tonnes - the national legal weight limit for roads.
The original Skolie Burn Bridge was demolished in May last year when it was realised that it had deteriorated to the point where further weight restrictions were needed.
Work has been ongoing since then and the new road deck is now in place. On completion, the new bridge will re-open with two lanes
The spokeswoman said the charity is keen to find a quiet and caring home for the older dog to settle in.
The Dogs Trust spokeswoman added: “Meika prefers to keep away from other dogs and needs quiet areas to walk in and she would be happiest as the only pet at home.
“With her sweet nature and appreciation of the finer things in life, Meika is sure to bring happiness to her new family. If you think you could provide the perfect home for Meika, or any of the other 50 dogs currently available for rehoming, please contact the centre on 01506 873459.”
