Four brothers make a slice of football history A special moment on title party night
A 2-0 win against Albion Rovers on a midweek night at Almondvale in front of just over 600 people is not a game that would normally stand out.
The Lions had already secured the Third Division championship and Rovers clapped the champions on to the park with a guard of honour.
But the four Jacobs brothers taking to the field together made it one of Livingston’s most historic matches.
The game ended with older brother Keaghan alongside triplets Kyle, Devon and Sheldon on the park after Sheldon had came on as a late substitute.
Livingston stalwart Keaghan recalls the special occasion .
He said: “We had already secured the league and the manager at the time, Gary Bollan, had let us know beforehand that there was a good chance we would all get on.
“Kyle, Devon and I all started then Sheldon came on later on.
“We went into the game thinking we would get the chance to all play in the same side but obviously you don’t know how games are going to pan out – we were lucky enough that the game went our way.”
The play-off places were still up for grabs and Albion Rovers were in the hunt, so there was no guarantees the brothers would all be on the grass at the same time.
David Sinclair smashing a 35yard pearler into the top corner in the 15th minute would have calmed their nerves, and when Rovers conceded an own goal a few minutes after that, it was only a matter of time.
Keaghan said: “I kept looking over when the substitutions were getting made just to see what was happening and then Sheldon was put on – it was a really proud moment. We had always played football together growing up but playing in the first team alongside my brothers was something I couldn’t have imagined.
“The family was really proud, I don’t think they expected all four boys to go on to play a professional game in the same side together.
“The fans gave us a great reception. We moved to Livingston from South Africa when we were really young so we had grown up here and they gave us a brilliant reception on the night.”
Keaghan says it was not something they had spoken of that much beforehand.
The lads had all played together throughout their youth at
Murieston Boys Club and Rangers so they all had an understanding on the park.
However, they were just concentrating on becoming professionals and not thinking of any historic accolades.
Keaghan said: “Strangely enough we had never really spoken abut playing in the first team together.
“We played at youth level with each other at Livi but we have never had a discussion about playing in the same first team game together.
“We obviously all spoke about playing in the first team as individuals, but we never expected it to happen all at the same time.
“They were just like any other team-mates – but you know their game that wee bit better .”
Sheldon made his one and only professional appearance that night, whilst Devon drifted out of the pro-ranks and is now with Bo’ness United.
Kyle went onto play 166 games for Livingston over two spells and is now at Greenock Morton.
Keaghan received a testimonial last year and but for a brief spell in South Africa has been at Livingston all his pro days, racking up 318 appearances so far.
