CITIZENS ADVICE

CAB West Lothian is still providing a service and trying to help in any way we can. We have been working hard over the last couple of weeks to adapt to the changing times around us and our response to the outbreak of COVOD-19. Our teams are now working from home and we continue to provide advice and support by telephone, e-mail and web chat. The need for advice has never been so high and the aftermath of this current situation will mean that the demand for our service will increase dramatically so please be patient. The community groups in the local area have been doing some fantastic work and our tenants have had some vital support during this time, with one tenant commenting that it made their day. If you need any help, please get in touch with your Housing Officer on 01506 439291 and they will do everything they can to help.

If you are currently receiving Universal Credit, you will have had or will soon get notification on your journal advising you of the information you need to provide on your new rent. This will appear as a new item on your ‘to do list’, as “report any changes to your housing costs”. It is very important that you respond to this and provide the information requested - we are unable to do this for you. If you don’t report the change, then the wrong housing costs amount will be used towards your calculation of Universal Credit, and as a result you may not receive enough Universal Credit to cover your rent. You need to report the change no earlier than the date advised on your letter.
