70 years together
The family of Polbeth couple Frank and Mary Mabbutt surprised them with a special celebration to mark their platinum wedding anniversary.
They decorated their home on June 24 to help them celebrate 70 years of happy marriage.
Mary and Frank, both 90, met while serving at RAF Benson and got married at St Mary the Virgin Church in Wallingford.
Frank is originally from Islington in London but they moved back to Mary’s home town of Polbeth in 1959.
They had their only son Francis in 1961 and now have two granddaughters Ashley and Carrie and three great-grandchildren Dylan, Elise and Laila.
Before retiring Frank worked in the financial industry and Mary worked in her local school as a cleaner.
The couple enjoy many hobbies. Granddaughter Ashley said:“Granda plays the accordion and is a great lover of French accordion music and is always buying sheet music and CDs from the internet.
“He’s a dab hand on eBay now. He went on a computer course so he could learn to use it.
“My gran is a dedicated member of the Eastern
Star and is out five or six nights a week attending different meeting across Scotland.
“She also enjoys knitting to keep her busy. They are a very active pair.
“They celebrated their anniversary with an afternoon tea at my house with the kids and my sister. We also decorated their house outside as a little surprise.”
