Care firm looks to hire new workers

-

The West Lothian branch of care at home provider Mears Care Scotland has announced several new jobs for care workers.

The work involved can include assisting with personal care, administering medication, meal preparation, shopping and housework.

“The care sector offers secure, long-term employment due to the ever- increasing demand,” said Denise Petersen, the company’s manager in West Lothian.

“We truly value our carers and the company offer great opportunity for career progression.

“I have several members of my team who started as care workers having come from a completely different sector with no experience who have been given training on the job.

“They have progressed to more senior roles such as helping manage the teams. Mears also support individual members of staff to study and achieve their SVQ 2 in Social Care.”

Denise continued: “I believe that those people who work in care will always have a job, there is such a demand for this work.

Care worker Stacey Tumilowicz said: “I have a good work/ life balance. I get to spend quality time with my family and also do a job I love.

“My job is extremely rewarding and no two days are the same, which I enjoy. The team I work with are great. We communicate well and I get a lot of support from my colleagues and from the office.”

“I’ve worked in care for nine years and I wouldn’t consider any other career. I feel this is the job I was meant to do.

“I’m out there making a difference and seeing how grateful our service users are makes it all worthwhile.

“This job isn’t for everyone. You have to have the right qualities to be a good carer but the rewards are huge. Mears have invested in me and supported me to get my SVQ2 and there is good opportunity for career progression with the company.”
