West Lothian College honoured at virtual awards

- JOHN-PAUL CLARK

West Lothian College staff were big winners at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The annual College Development Network Awards celebrate the talent and skills of staff and students across Scotland’s colleges.

This year they were presented in a virtual ceremony MC’d by actress Elaine C. Smith.

Staff were nominated in two categories with both lecturer Marion Darling and employment engagement officer Elaine Campbell up for the College Colleague of the Year Award and the marketing team nominated for the Marketing and Communications Award.

Marion was highly commended and Elaine commended for their outstanding work across the college over the past year whilst the marketing team took home first prize for their work on the college’s first ever Virtual Open Day held earlier this year.

Simon Earp, vice principal for performance and improvement, said: “Well

what can I say? With two commendations and an overall win, we are all really proud of our staff and their achievements. It’s been a superb outcome for us and it’s great to have our staff recognised for the hard work they put in every day.”

Ma r k e t i n g and communications lead at the college, Scott Coutts, who accepted the award on behalf of the marketing

team at the virtual ceremony, added: “I’m delighted that the college has been recognised at the College Development Network Awards. The college has been excellent in adapting to the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring that we continue to support our students and applicants to achieve their potential. Being shortlisted for three awards is a great success and showcases the

hard work, commitment and innovation of everyone at the college. Last night really did showcase why we #LoveScotlandsColleges.”

The college has recently launched their 2021 full, part- time and schools courses starting in the autumn. So whether you are leaving school in 2021, are considering a career change or want to re- train, West Lothian College is available

with a range of options for your future. They have over 100 full- time, nearly 150 part- time and 40 schools courses on offer in 2021, and with 97 per cent of fulltime students progressing to further study or employment six months after graduating (2019 students), now is the time to start looking towards your next career steps and the future after the Covid-19 pandemic.
