Martyn Day - MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk
Many of us will be yearning to spend some precious time with family, friends and loved ones this Christmas season. However, this is an extraordinary Christmas unlike any we could have imagined as the bells chimed on Hogmanay last year. Christmas time is the season of goodwill and the most selfless thing we can all do this Yuletide is to keep ourselves and those around us safe by exercising caution and thinking carefully about whether we need to meet with anyone outside our household bubble.
Over the past months many have struggled with job loss, financial hardship, isolation from loved ones, and sadly, in far too many cases, the loss of someone they care about. This year has taken its toll on our families, our local businesses and almost certainly our mental health.
However, Christmas is also a time to reflect. When I look back on what we have endured over 2020 what stands out for me, despite our struggles, is the care and compassion our local community has displayed in supporting one another. To all those who have kept us safe, those who treated the sick, to our local business owners and their employees, to our farmers who kept us fed, to the organisations and volunteers who supported the vulnerable, and to everyone who selflessly contributed to see us through these challenging times, thank you. I’d like to finish by wishing you all a safe Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.
Grateful
