- DEBBIE HALL

A West Lothian woman who has been providing Sunday dinners to families turned her attention to Christmas to make sure everyone could enjoy a celebratory dinner.

Anne Wilson, also known as the Sunday Dinner Lady, along with pals Mo, Tricia and Jude, Ann Tague and Martha Martindale and an army of volunteers, delivered over 100 Christmas dinner bags to families who are struggling across West Lothian.

They were up at 5.30am on December 23 and Anne pulled out all the stops and distributed the bags packed with tasty goodies to make sure everyone could enjoy the big day with a delicious family meal.

She said: “Our bags provided everything to cook a three- course Christmas dinner, with a soup mix, Christmas roast dinner and trifle ingredients.

“All the items they received were fresh food from fresh chickens, fresh kilted sausages to a bag full of fresh fruit and veg.

“They also received rice and Chinese curry paste to use up their left over chicken and veg for another meal and also included was lots of treats from boxes of biscuits, tubs of chocolates and every single child received a bag of sweeties.

“Over 400 people across West Lothian were able to have a Christmas dinner.

“We’d like to thank the West Lothian Food Network, Fiona Hendry from Morrisons Carmondean, Natalie, the store manager at Sainsbury’s Winchburgh, St John Mid Calder 272, Simon Preece at Food Creations and the West Lothian community for all their generous donations.”

Since January last year, over 4500 people across West Lothian have benefited from a fresh Sunday dinner.

Anne launched her Sunday dinner boxes after she discovering a similar initiative in East Lothian.
